Leica Thambar-M 90 on Sony A7 Cameras

Image
Leica Thambar-M 90mm on Sony A7 by Kazuhiro ITOH Leica reintroduced their Thambar 90 f/2.2 lens this week. The look it produces is very distinctive, dreamlike image. Posted here is a gallery of Leica Thambar 90 images taken with the Sony A7 cameras via lens adapter. The 1935 designed Leica Thambar-M 90 can also be used in autofocus mode using the Techart Pro LM-EA7 adapter with the newest generation of Sony A7 cameras. From Leica: The new Thambar has almost entirely adopted the design of the original lens – featuring the same proportions, black paint finish and red and white aperture scales as its 1930s predecessor. The red scale applies when the center spot filter is in place, which diminishes the effective aperture of the lens – for example, from 2.2 to 2.3 when wide open. When working without the center spot filter, the white aperture scale is used. In order to retain its vintage appeal, the Thambar’s exterior has only been subtly adapted to reflect the pared-down character

Use Medium Format Lenses with Sony A7 Cameras

Image
Sony A7 ii with a Mamiya 645 80mm f/1.9 lens via Kipon Baveyes Focal Reducer. Here is a review of the Kipon Baveyes medium format lens focal reducer adapter for Sony A7 cameras.  This adapter has a lens element that concentrates the medium format image circle down to the size of a 24x36mm sensor of the Sony A7 cameras with a 0.7x factor.  The 80mm lens above has an equivalent focal length of 56mm.  The concentrated light also gives us one stop of extra light.  The f/1.9 is an equivalent f/1.36, a very fast medium format lens. This a manual focus lens adapter. Kipon Baveyes Medium Format Lens Focal Reducer Review by @mattiasburling Read the complete review at gunpowdervideo.com . Thanks @mattiasburling ! Check out Kipon for all available medium format focal lens reducer adapters. Let's go a step further by adding the TECHART LM-EA7 Autofocus Lens Adapter with the Kipon Baveyes we can have a medium format lens autofocus system. from Mathieu Gasquet

8 Images Blended Together. Here is the Lysudamuloa Red Jewel in full bloom. We wanted to try out focus stacking with the Leica 60mm Macro Elmarit-R. The aperture was set at f/5.6 which we assumed was optimal. The image above at 45˚ was a stack of 8 shots aligned and blended together with Photoshop. Sony A7r at Mardi Gras World New Orleans

Image
Face to face. We took a break from eating oysters in New Orleans and took a quick tour of Mardi Gras World. Mardi Gras World supports a third of the floats that are paraded on the days leading to Fat Tuesday in February. They are responsible for the design and upkeep of all the decorations on the floats. The tools at hand were the Sony A7r and the 40mm M-Rokkor. We shot in Aperture mode, seemingly stuck at f/2.4. Sharpness at f/2.4 is substantially better than wide open at f/2.0 on the Minolta CLE lens. Envious Flash. Larry, Curly, and Moe. Guardians. Cobra Ring. Artists in Residence 1. Hands On with Zeiss 35mm Distagon on Sony a7r at Photo Plus

Image
Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon on the a7r Here is the newest Zeiss lens for the Leica M system. It is a Distagon 1.4/35mm ZM lens - Carl Zeiss' fastest lens for rangefinder cameras. We stopped by the Zeiss booth at Photo Plus and tried it out on the Sony a7r with a close-focus adapter. Voigtlander makes a better version of the adapter but this one works for us. The 35mm Distagon ZM feels like a fine piece of machinery. The aperture from f/1.4 to f/18 have soft click stops. The focus ring is smooth, well damped, and pleasing to use - we prefer it to the Otus' ring . The lens is dense and heavy for such a small size thanks to the all metal construction. The 35mm Distagon ZM is deceptively heavy as the 85mm Otus ZE is deceptively light.

Zeiss 35mm Distagon ZM Announced

Mockup of Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 ZM on Sony A7r Carl Zeiss announced their fastest ZM, Leica M mount, lens at Photokina 2014. The new Distagon T* 1,4/35mm ZM is designed for the Leica M digital sensor but we are hopeful that it will work well on the Sony A7 cameras with the appropriate lens adapter. Above is a mockup of what the Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 lens would look on a Sony A7. The Zeiss 35 f/1.4 will provide subject isolation through shallow depth of field. Rolling. Here are some shots of Brooklyn produced by the Sony A7r and the Voigtlander 12mm f/5.6 Ultra Wide Heliar. This is the 1st version of the 12mm lens in Leica M mount .  You can see the color shift but it's not intrusive for these snaps.  The Voigtlander 12mm is compact and looks great on the A7r. Wilted.
